Take your pick. Arguably, some of Shakespeare's plays (especially the comedies) had such endings . But if you want really cheesy 'god in the machine' endings, look no further than Star Trek, especially the older episodes (sorry Star Trek fans, I love the show too, but some of the resolutions ...lol). Let me think of some examples... oh yeah, there are a few episodes when the Enterprise is seized by some alien intelligence, then suddenly, after re-configuring a tricorder or warp-engine, the crew (and humanity) are saved -- just in time.
There are a few examples that somehow work; as already mentioned, 'Lord of the Flies.' Would you classify Hermione's resurrection in 'The Winter's Tale' as a deus ex machina ending, or is it an example of magical realism, which is not necessarily subject to the physical laws of reality?What is your favorite deus ex machina ending?
